Women United to uplift United Way mission at Celebrate to Elevate
Who: United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s President & CEO Bobbi Watt Geer, Ph.D.; Women United Co-Chairs Kathy Humphrey, Ph.D. and Maris Dauer; Women United donors; and Women United Director Lynne Popash and Development Officer Lee Ann Munger.
What: On April 24, United Way’s Women United donor group will host its annual Celebrate to Elevate fundraising event. Sponsored by UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, the Eden Hall Foundation, PPG Industries, PNC Financial Services, S&T Bank, Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, Parkhurst Dining Services, Eaton, Raymond James Financial and Diamonds Direct, this uplifting celebration brings the community together to network, socialize and support each other and United Way. Women United members donate at least $1,000 annually to support United Way.
The opening program will recognize outgoing Women United Co-Chairs Dr. Kathy Humphrey and Maris Dauer while announcing the incoming co-chairs. Other event highlights include a selfie station, silent auction, food stations and specialty drinks. A basket raffle will feature premier hotel, restaurant, sports and cultural packages. Diamonds Direct has also donated a diamond pendant valued at $4,000 as a raffle item. Engagement activities will provide attendees with insights into the issues facing women and children in our region and how United Way is working to address those issues. Single tickets are $100 and are available on the United Way website.
Why: Women United is a powerful philanthropic collective advancing United Way’s community investment priorities. Celebrate to Elevate is Women United’s largest fundraising event and generates around $90,000 for United Way every year. Support for Women United and United Way is an investment in food security, affordable and safe housing, transportation, child care and health care, and access to good jobs, education and out-of-school time opportunities. These issues disproportionately impact women: 70% of requests to United Way’s PA 211 Southwest helpline come from women and 33% of requests come from people who identify as Black.
When: Thursday, April 24, 2025, 5:15 to 8 p.m.
Where: PNC Firstside Center, 500 1st Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
