The needs in our community are great for too many of our neighbors. About 41% of people in our region, no matter how hard they work, still are unable to afford the essentials of living. You can make a difference by volunteering through United Way. You may join events organized and scheduled by United Way or create your own experiences for yourself or your loved ones. You can also sign up to become a Free Tax Prep volunteer and help local families save millions in fees and refunds.

Collection Drives
To fulfill their missions, nonprofit agencies often need specific supplies to support their clients and communities. In coordination with our agency partners, we have identified four collection drives that align with the greatest needs and are the most requested items.
Free Tax Prep Volunteers
Be a tax prep hero! Volunteer tax preparers and greeters change lives and make an immediate difference. Choose from 20+ volunteer sites in Allegheny, Armstrong, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties and make a difference where you live and work. No professional experience is necessary! We provide free training and day, evening and weekend volunteer hours are available. Last year, our 313 volunteers prepared nearly 8,400 returns, which helps working families use their refunds to pay for basic needs like food, housing and utilities. Since 2009, United Way free tax prep volunteers have saved taxpayers $26.9 million in tax prep fees and generated $198.6 million in refunds.
