Free Tax Prep Coalition:

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches (AVAC) is a Christian agency composed of churches working together to meet the spiritual, social and physical needs of the community.

United Way funding supported AVAC’s participation in the Free Tax Prep Coalition in 2025. By providing easily accessible services at three locations in an area with limited public transportation, AVAC ensures more community members can receive free, reliable tax preparation assistance and keep more of their hard-earned money in their pockets. The Free Tax Prep Coalition is part of the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which engages volunteers to provide free tax preparation services nationwide.

2024

Free Tax Prep Coalition:

The Allegheny Valley Association of Churches helps run the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, which provides free income tax preparation for individuals and families

This grant helped AVAC operate three conveniently located tax sites in 2024. These sites are strategically placed to serve low-income communities in Allegheny County with limited access to public transportation, so that these individuals and families can receive free, professional tax preparation services.
