Emergency Food Assistance

Due to the government shutdown, 300,000 households did not get SNAP food assistance on Nov. 3. Legal appeals may delay benefits, causing widespread food insecurity. Give today to support emergency food assistance and our 211 contact center, which has seen dramatic upticks in calls for food. Click here to give.

Impact Grant:

Veterans Leadership Program of Western PA provides free tax preparation through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, helping veterans, individuals and families accurately file their taxes and access all credits for which they are eligible. This service supports financial stability and helps participants make the most of their income.

This grant helps fund Veterans Leadership Program of Western PA’s tax assistance services, supporting one fixed tax site and multiple mobile clinics in 2024. These services, including mobile tax clinic visits to at least three military bases in Allegheny County, empower veterans and other community members to access free, accurate tax preparation and claim all credits for which they qualify.

2023-2026

Impact Grant:

Veterans Leadership Program (VLP) recently acquired the former Good Shepherd Catholic School in Braddock, which will be renovated into its new headquarters. The facility will serve as a one-stop human services shop, offering housing, career development, supportive services and wellness programs to more than 8,000 veterans every year.

This grant allowed VLP to equip its new Braddock facility with commercial refrigerators so that veterans in temporary housing have reliable access to safe food storage. By meeting this essential need, VLP can better support the health, stability and overall well-being of the veterans it serves as they work toward long-term independence.

2023-2026
