Career counseling helps people build their own bright futures
Karma moved to the Pittsburgh area to leave a difficult family situation. Karma reached out to the Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh who then referred her to Jewish Family and Community Services (JFCS)’s career services for help finding employment. A JFCS career counselor met with Karma at her local library, and she was initially very distressed. Although Karma had many years of housekeeping experience, she was unfamiliar with how to search for a job in a new region. Karma’s career counselor helped her develop a resume, apply for jobs online and connected her with mental health resources for the additional support she needed.
Karma’s persistence paid off when she received invitations for job interviews. Her career counselor helped her prepare for the interviews, respond professionally to emails and complete online paperwork and background checks. Karma is happily employed in the health care industry working at a senior living community. She feels more secure in her life and has gained confidence in her ability to navigate the job search process.
