What’s your role at United Way and what’s your favorite part of the job?
I’m the manager of our Events and Volunteer Engagement team, where I help connect donors with meaningful, hands-on volunteer opportunities that bring our work to life. These projects allow people to understand exactly where their support is going and how it’s making a difference, translating our impact into something tangible. My favorite part of the job is planning the events we host throughout the year. One of the most fun projects recently was helping create the personalized menu and recipe cards for our Meal Kit Packing event. Food insecurity is rising across our region. Assembling six meals for a family of four is about more than just filling a box, it’s a meaningful way to understand and respond to the real needs of our neighbors with care and intention.
What’s a moment or accomplishment you’re most proud of?
I’m most proud of the impact our engagement activities have on the community. One example is knowing that 600 kids in our region will receive brand-new bikes because of our Build A Bike event. I get that same proud feeling during every big distribution day, whether we’re delivering bikes, school supplies or meals. The agencies are always so thankful and excited to serve their communities with these resources.
What’s one thing your coworkers may not know about you?
I regularly attend a weekly bluegrass jam session on Wednesday nights, where I play guitar or banjo. I’ve been involved with music since I was a kid and have a degree in music from the University of Cincinnati. After college, I was looking to find a musical community. I picked up guitar again a few years ago and found this open jam. It’s a welcoming circle where everyone takes turns picking a song, and we all join in.
When you’re not at work, where can we find you?
I’m out walking my pittie-mix pup for at least an hour or two every day. In the summer, we beat the heat by heading out early in the morning or later in the evening, since her black fur gets hot quickly. You might also find me at Ascend rock-climbing gym. I love staying active and spending time outdoors.
What’s an item you would bring with you to a deserted island?
I’d definitely bring a guitar or banjo for some mental stimulation. I’d love to bring a book too, but choosing just one is tough. And without a doubt, I’d bring my dog for companionship!
