United Way has developed a slate of robust and deeply engaging opportunities to help you learn about the needs in our community, and how each person can contribute to creating a more caring and equitable world where everyone can thrive. These activities create empathy, offer group learning opportunities and supplement kit packing events that have real impact for people in need.
Connect U
United Way’s nine-week program, starting in February, engages young professionals with community leaders and subject experts to develop philanthropic leadership skills and make lasting relationships. Participants learn how human service agencies meet basic needs, solve problems and the vital role of volunteerism.
Poverty Spiral
This simulation reveals the seemingly impossible choices faced by people who don’t earn enough, despite working, to meet their basic needs. Created with the Mentoring Partnership of Western Pennsylvania, the Poverty Spiral challenges players to choose how they would act if placed in a variety of real-world situations.
