Welcome Back Summer:
Grow Pittsburgh, founded in 2005 by three urban farmers, teaches people how to grow food while highlighting the many benefits gardens bring to neighborhoods. Over the years, the organization has expanded and adapted its programs to meet community needs and priorities, fostering healthier, more connected communities through urban gardening.
This grant helps fund Grow Pittsburgh’s Urban Farmers in Training program, which empowers youth to operate farm stands that provide fresh produce in food apartheid areas. The program not only addresses food insecurity but also equips participants with valuable career readiness skills, fostering leadership, responsibility and long-term community impact.

Welcome Back Summer:
Grow Pittsburgh’s Urban Farmers in Training (UFIT) Program offers local teens summer employment while teaching them to grow, cook and understand healthy food. Participants gain hands-on farming experience, prepare meals with fresh produce and explore how the food system impacts health and the environment. The program also builds leadership and public speaking skills through weekly farm stands, tours and youth-led presentations.
This grant supports Grow Pittsburgh’s UFIT Program, which addresses food insecurity and creates youth employment opportunities in Braddock, Homewood, Point Breeze North and Wilkinsburg. UFIT supports youth-led farm stands that provide fresh produce in food apartheid areas and promotes long-term career readiness by equipping young participants with valuable job skills and leadership experience.
