Emergency Food Assistance

Due to the government shutdown, 300,000 households did not get SNAP food assistance on Nov. 3. Legal appeals may delay benefits, causing widespread food insecurity. Give today to support emergency food assistance and our 211 contact center, which has seen dramatic upticks in calls for food. Click here to give.

Impact Grant:

Northern Area Multi-Service Center of Allegheny Co. (NAMS) operates six Ford F-150 refrigerated trucks and several sedans that deliver Meals on Wheels to people across the northern half of Allegheny County. In addition, NAMS manages a fleet of more than 85 sedans and wheelchair-accessible lift vans through its paratransit program, which provides reliable transportation and meal delivery for those in need.

This grant will help NAMS update the air conditioning systems in its Meals on Wheels vehicles to meet new federal regulations. By keeping its fleet in compliance and fully operational, NAMS can continue delivering meals to those in need throughout the northern half of Allegheny County.

Impact Grant:

Northern Area Multi-Service Center (NAMS) offers transportation for older adults and individuals with disabilities in Pittsburgh and northern Allegheny County. Services include paratransit via wheelchair-accessible vans and standard passenger vehicles tailored to riders’ needs.

This grant will support the purchase and installation of a security camera system for the NAMS’ Meals on Wheels and paratransit vehicle lot. The system will provide 24/7 surveillance with more than 32 cameras to help prevent ongoing issues with vehicle theft, vandalism and stolen parts. These crimes have directly impacted NAMS’ ability to deliver essential services to older adults and individuals with disabilities.
