Building Bridges: A Big Sister’s Dedication Transforms a Young Boy’s Life

Jameson and Aleisha have been matched in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for just over a year. Jameson, who has a diagnosis that makes it challenging for him to communicate effectively, often struggled to manage his emotions and behavior. Because of these behavioral challenges, their initial meetings took place in a separate classroom, away from his peers.

Initially, Aleisha, his big sister in the program, was uncertain about how to best support him. However, with ongoing guidance and training from her caseworker, she
embraced the role with patience and empathy. She consistently showed up, applied behavioral techniques, and participated in structured activities to help Jameson feel comfortable and understood.

Her dedication made a significant impact. Jameson is now actively engaging with Aleisha, eagerly anticipating their time together. He is proud to introduce her to his peers and teachers, and his relationship with Aleisha has become a positive bridge, helping him to communicate more effectively with others and make new friends. He’s even started playing with other kids during recess, a significant step forward in his social development.

Thanks to the continuous training and support from her caseworker, Aleisha gained the skills needed to attend community events with Jameson. The pair has begun to explore new resources and experiences in the community. Recently, both attended a Pirates baseball game, where Jameson had a blast enjoying the food and the atmosphere.

Aleisha’s consistency and dedication have transformed Jameson’s world, opening doors to positive communication and fostering a sense of belonging. With her support, Jameson is thriving, and the pair’s journey together continues to be filled with new adventures and opportunities for growth
