Emergency Food Assistance

Due to the government shutdown, 300,000 households won’t get SNAP food assistance on Nov. 3. Legal appeals may delay benefits, causing widespread food insecurity. Give today to support emergency food assistance and our 211 contact center, which has seen dramatic upticks in calls for food.

Sandra Pinkney

Who inspired you to give back— and how are you carrying that forward today?

“I was deeply inspired by my grandmother, who gave generously her time, even when she didn’t have much to give materially. She believed in lifting others up quietly and consistently, whether it was helping a neighbor, mentoring a young person at church, or simply listening with compassion. That spirit of service shaped my outlook from a young age.

Today, I carry that legacy forward by intentionally investing in people and purpose-driven initiatives. I mentor emerging leaders, support education and health equity efforts, and seek opportunities to amplify impact through both volunteerism and philanthropy. Giving back isn’t a moment—it’s a mindset, and I’m honored to be part of a community like the Tocqueville Society that shares that belief.”
