Union Mission is a beacon of hope for those experiencing homelessness
Mitchell, age 30 continues to demonstrate strength and perseverance while addressing mental health challenges, addiction, chronic health conditions and while facing periods of homelessness during the past six years. Mitchell performed well each time he has stayed at The Union Mission shelter program, often exiting to rental properties or to live with friends. However, he often isolates and fractures his social support structures and eventually finds himself without housing. Mitchell feels safe and valued at The Union Mission, working hard during his residencies, not only on his goals, but on making the place nicer. He’s even volunteered to help the organization outside of his times as a guest.
Mitchell was also connected to an even more appropriate housing referral — permanent supportive housing, where he has resided since February 2024.
United Way ensures The Union Mission is able to serve as a beacon of hope to those experiencing homelessness in Westmoreland County. Mitchell exemplifies perseverance and how The Union Mission provides a stable, safe place to try again. United Way’s support makes sure no one has to face challenges alone.
