Sally Davis Ellwein, MSW, MPH, is the chief program and policy officer, Community Impact at United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania. With more than 15 years of nonprofit experience in direct service and administration, Sally leads United Way’s efforts to achieve its strategic goals, which include meeting basic needs, moving individuals and families to greater financial stability and building for success in school and life. Collaborating with community leaders and partners, Sally addresses policy and systems change, driving the overall strategy for the organization.
Sally attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, majoring in American studies with a concentration in women’s studies. She earned her master’s degree in social work from Columbia University School of Social Work, specializing in generalist practice and program development, and her master’s degree in public health from Columbia University’s Joseph P. Mailman School of Public Health, where she focused on health promotion and disease prevention.
Throughout her career, Sally has worked to advance equity for and with diverse communities that have experienced disinvestments, such as Stonehurst elementary school in Oakland, California; Grand Street Settlement, an historic community-based organization in New York City and the Center for Comprehensive Care; the largest HIV care center in New York State.
Sally lives in Mt. Lebanon with her husband Todd and their pug, Senator. Her twin sons attend college out of state.
