United Way statement about the passing of Richard Simmons

Bobbi Watt Geer, president & CEO, United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania

United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania joins with nonprofits and business leaders across our region in mourning the passing of Richard P. “Dick” Simmons, a true champion of our community. Dick was a gifted philanthropist who rallied the people around him to donate generously. He chaired United Way’s board in 1993-1994, and our Tocqueville Society leadership donor group in 1994Dick also served as United Way annual campaign chair in 1989. He led with integrity and his generosity helped change countless lives across our region. He was the first member of our Million Dollar Roundtable, which honors those who donate $1 million or more in their lifetime to United Way. His commitment to uplifting others served as a powerful example of how one person’s commitment can raise the bar for an entire community. His legacy will continue to inspire our work supporting human services every day and for generations to come.
